1) Scope

This Policy applies to SlideStart.com, our customer portal, and our communications. It does not apply to third-party sites we link to (including original sources of the “Real Slides” previews). Those sites are governed by their own policies.

2) Information We Collect

A. Information you provide directly

  • Account & profile: name, email, optional company/role/industry.
  • Billing: processed by Stripe via Memberstack. We receive limited payment metadata (e.g., last4, brand, billing ZIP) and do not store full card numbers.
  • Content you submit: forms, surveys, support requests/attachments, and (if used) VideoAsk recordings.
  • Communications: emails and messages you send us.

B. Information collected automatically

  • Usage: pages viewed, clicks, searches, referring URLs, session duration.
  • Device/technical: IP address, approximate location, browser/OS, screen size.
  • Cookies & similar tech: identifiers for sessions, analytics, performance, and advertising—see Cookies & Tracking.

C. Information from service providers acting on our behalf

Authentication/billing portal (Memberstack), payments (Stripe), hosting/CMS (Webflow), analytics (Google Analytics 4, Hotjar), customer ops/CRM (Airtable), site utilities (Finsweet), video forms (VideoAsk).

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information (e.g., health, precise geolocation, government IDs). Please do not submit such data.

3) How We Use Information (Purposes & Legal Bases)

Our purposes

  • Provide and operate: create/manage accounts, authenticate users, process subscriptions, deliver content, and provide support.
  • Improve and secure: debug, analyze, research, enhance performance and user experience; prevent fraud and abuse.
  • Communicate: send transactional messages (e.g., receipts, account notices); send marketing communications where permitted.
  • Comply: meet legal, tax, and regulatory obligations; enforce terms; respond to lawful requests.

Legal bases (EEA/UK where applicable)

  • Contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b))
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — security, performance, fraud prevention, communications about similar services (you can object at any time)
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for non-essential cookies/analytics/retargeting and marketing where required
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c))

4) Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies for:

  • Strictly necessary: login, security, billing
  • Analytics & performance: GA4 and Hotjar
  • Advertising/retargeting: Meta Pixel, Google Ads, LinkedIn Insight Tag

Choices. Manage cookies in your browser. Where required, we show a banner to obtain consent for non-essential cookies and provide a Cookie Settings link to update preferences.

Do Not Sell or Share. Under the CPRA, our use of advertising cookies/pixels may be a “share” for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information for money, but we may share identifiers and internet activity with ad partners for retargeting. You can opt out anytime via the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link and by using the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in supported browsers, which we honor as an opt-out.

5) How We Disclose Information

We do not sell personal information. We disclose the categories described above to:

  • Service providers/processors (Memberstack, Stripe, Webflow, GA4, Hotjar, Airtable, Finsweet, VideoAsk) under data-processing agreements
  • Advertising partners (Meta, Google, LinkedIn) where you have consented or not opted out; see Cookies & Tracking
  • Legal/safety to comply with law or protect rights, security, and property
  • Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of our business. Personal information (including account names and email addresses) may be transferred to a successor. The acquirer may use the information in a manner consistent with this Policy; if it plans materially different uses, we or the acquirer will provide required notice and choices (e.g., unsubscribe options and, where applicable, opt-out of “sale” or “sharing”).

6) International Transfers

We are U.S.-based and may transfer personal information to the U.S. and other countries with different data-protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) with our processors. We do not maintain an EU/UK representative.

7) Retention

  • Account & billing records: up to 7 years after your last transaction (tax/finance)
  • Support tickets & VideoAsk submissions: up to 24 months after closure unless needed longer for legal reasons
  • Marketing contact data: until you unsubscribe or after 24 months of inactivity
  • Analytics: GA4 event data up to 14 months; Hotjar per account settings (we aim for ≤ 12 months where configurable)

8) Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the risk (HTTPS, access controls, least-privilege, reputable vendors). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

9) Your Rights & Choices

EEA/UK (GDPR)

Rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to processing; and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing). You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

U.S. state privacy rights (e.g., CA/CPRA, CO, CT, VA, UT)

Where applicable, rights to know/access, correct, delete, opt out of sale or sharing (we do not sell; we may share for advertising as described), limit use/disclosure of sensitive PI (we do not use SPI for inferring characteristics), and non-discrimination. Virginia/Colorado/Connecticut users may appeal a rights-request decision.

How to exercise rights: email team@slidestart.com with subject “Privacy Request” and your state/country. We will verify your identity (e.g., email confirmation or additional info) and respond within the relevant timeframe. To opt out of sale/sharing for advertising, use the Do Not Sell or Share link or send us a request. We honor GPC signals as an opt-out for the browser that sends the signal.

10) Children’s Privacy

Our services are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided data to us, contact us to request deletion.

11) Third-Party Content & Links

Real Slides (Third-Party Slides). We display preview images generated from publicly available PDF slide decks for discovery and inspiration, and we link to the original sources. We do not own or license those third-party works and do not grant rights to reuse them. Any viewing or download occurs at the original source and is governed by the owner’s terms.

Link Availability. Source links are provided for convenience. Because we do not host third-party originals and have no control over them, links may change or stop working at any time without notice. We do not continuously monitor, maintain, or guarantee the availability, accuracy, or legality of third-party sources and have no obligation to update broken links. If you are a rights holder or notice an issue with a link, please contact team@slidestart.com.

Other Links. We may link to additional third-party sites or materials. Review their privacy policies before using those sites.

12) Communications Preferences

  • Transactional emails (receipts, account notices) are required for the service.
  • Marketing emails are optional; you can unsubscribe at any time via the email link or by emailing us.

13) Changes to this Policy

We will post updates here and revise the “Last updated” date above. For material changes, we will provide additional notice where required (e.g., banner or email). Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
